meanwhile back in my living room…

One of the projects I’m determined to finish is a gallery wall behind the sofa.  My last post about my living room was ages ago and I just want to get it finished.  But I must tell you as I was editing my photos I was totally struck by how woody, brown and super neutral it is!  My husband finished putting up the rods and drapes last week and they are a taupe tan color and man, you add that to all my neutral linen and I really feel the room cries for some color.  So that will be added to my project list.

I would LOVE to paint that maple coffee table, maybe black milk paint.  But my husband is dead set against it.

Walter just loves to relax on the love seat…

I began by laying out all of the pieces.  Then I asked for some help!  My husband and one of my sons came to the rescue.  They helped carry in the larger mirrors and other stuff, we have a very eclectic collection!

gallery wall plan

This is my favorite piece and I can’t wait to hang it.  It’s a photo of my father Jay and his identical twin Jack.  My dad is on the right, so adorable (both of them!).  They were born in 1928 and I just love how my grandmother let their curls grow!

Going to go and shuffle the pictures around.  I hope to get these all up on the wall by the end of the week so stay tuned!

Cheers,

Jayne

  1. The room looks so beautiful – can’t wait to see what you do with the pictures and art work. The picture of the twins would have to be my favorite, too.

  2. That gallery wall will look great! Walter seems to be quite at home…he probably assumes you are doing all this decorating for him!

  3. I love seeing Walter!! I also love the pics of your dad!! Good Luck with your designing!!!

  4. Lesley.. in case you didn’t know… your sister inlaw!!!

    • It took me a second, lol! Isn’t Walter just the king? Thanks for the luck, I’m going to need it. We wished now that we had hung picture frame molding, that would have made this project a lot easier. Happy New Year!!!

  5. I love the curls on the twins!! That would have to be a focal point on my wall. If you are trying to add color to the room my first thought was to go for the dark red milk paint, but then seeing the picture of the twins and the frame it’s in I’d go with the blue milk paint that would draw attention to the picture. Black is still a neutral in my opinion and while I love touches of black it wouldn’t be my first choice if I were looking to add color. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing.

    • You’re so right Lois, black is totally neutral. I didn’t show but in one corner of the room is a very old blanket chest (18th century) and it has it’s original blue/green, sort of teal paint. So to bring some blue/green into the room would work. It’s amazing how differently you see a room by looking at photos of it!

  6. Hi, Jayne – Your gallery wall is going to be awesome! It will have terrific impact. I’m trying to collect enough art and pictures for a gallery wall in my study. Look forward to seeing more ~

    • Hi Loi! I hope it is, I just started to hang things, it’s a tad more difficult than I imagined. But I will be forging ahead and hope to have it done in a couple of days :)
